| Declaration: I hereby certify that no part of this GM Application has been copied from any other person’s work or from any other source except where due acknowledgement is made in the application. No part of the application has been written/produced for me by any other person.(Adapted from International Baccalaureate Economics Internal Assessment Cover Page, 'Assignment Cover Sheet', last accessed on 18 December 2012)Hey everyone! You're currently reading purplewhales' (yes that's me) GM application. I hope all of you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. I would absolutely love to have the honor and privilege of being a GM on this server. Please feel free to click on the spoilers to read more! P.S. My apologies if this application is a little wordy. I've already tried my utmost to make it as short as possible. Unfortunately, there is no way I can increase the font size of the text in the spoiler. So here goes... - Personal Information:
Name: Devon In-game Name: purplewhales Age: 18 Country: Singapore Timezone: GMT +8/UTC +8
- How many hours can you play a day?:
Up to 12 hours a day or so if I do not have anything else to do but a minimum of 5 hours if I do have something on. I graduated from senior school last month and am pretty much free until university starts in August 2013 (or 2014 if I decide to take a gap year). The number of hours I spend online will largely depend on what I have to do on that day.
On days that I am free, I am usually online between 11am to 4am or 10am to 3am(excluding meal and shower times). Please note that all times are in GMT/UTC +8.
- Do you have any experience as a GM?:
I do not have any experience as a GM. I personally feel that experience is a good to have but not a must have (just my opinion) because experience can be accumulated over time. My inexperience shouldn't ultimately dictate whether I get promoted to a GM or not. I mean, everyone has to start somewhere. The expert in anything was once a beginner, and experienced GMs were once players. I have chosen to begin my journey as a game master on this server and I sincerely hope that the staff of CrimsonMS would very kindly allow me to.
- How long have you played CrimsonMS?:
I joined the server about 14 hours ago and I fully understand that I am far from meeting the 2-week requirement that has been imposed. But I absolutely do not mind waiting till I've been around for 2 weeks before my application is considered. I just wanted to finish my application as soon as possible and get it out of the way so I don't have to worry about it.
- Why do you like CrimsonMS?:
I like CrimsonMS because it is a new server. It can serve as an excellent platform for me to kick start my GM career (if I am given the opportunity to) because I can grow together with it. Since I am so new to the server, I have to learn everything from scratch and familiarize myself with the server's features. That would allow me to answer any queries that players might ask much easier as opposed to becoming a GM on an established server that I have just joined.
- Why do you want to become a GM on CrimsonMS?:
I would like to become a GM on CrimsonMS because I like helping people. It really makes my day when I manage to help someone and I feel a sense of accomplishment. Fundamentally, a GM exists to help players. Despite not having experience as a GM, I feel that I have the experience as a player as well as the capability to help other players. I am definitely willing to learn the ropes of being a GM from more experienced GMs or from the administrator(s).
- What would you do as a GM in CrimsonMS?:
Everyone is unique and will contribute to the server in a different way. As for myself, I will try to make this server a fun and comfortable environment for as many people as possible by making friends with them. I am also willing to help people out whenever they require help but I am aware that being able to is a different matter altogether. Having said that, I will still try my best to help with this server in whatever ways that I can manage with.
- Why do you think we should choose you?:
Firstly, I believe that I am clear with my sentences. It is easy for people to understand me. I will have to communicate with players every day if I were to become a GM so it is important that they understand me. Clear communication is the key to success as some would say.
Secondly, I make my decisions based on what I feel is right. If my friend was to commit a mistake on the server, I will not hesitate to punish them as deemed fit. I will treat everyone equally no matter what race or religion they come from and whether they are my friend. I will never let emotions affect my decisions and will not ban someone because I have grudges against them.
Thirdly, I am a team player. Taking the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme has allowed me to work individually and in groups to complete many projects. I have had the opportunity to work in teams with different kinds of people which is important since GMs have to work together at times. I can also work alone when needed to (e.g. when there are no other GMs around).
Fourthly, my timezone is GMT +8. I would assume that there are little or no GMs (even though I shouldn't be assuming anything) based in that timezone. Moreover, since I am currently on holidays until university, I can be online for long periods of time. I think I actually have the timezone advantage on this server.
Last but not least, I am loyal and I will stay with the server for as long as I can. I will not jump to another server when I find a better one. I will dedicate myself to this server and help it grow and become a better one. There are many other qualities that I possess but I think these are the most important qualities that a good GM should have.
I may not become the best in the GM field but I can assure you that you will not be disappointed.
- How would you deal with potential fights between 2 players and/or staff members?:
If possible, I will try not to get involved in the dispute. I will just make sure that they do not argue where they would disrupt others (e.g. over megaphones). I will only step in when it is necessary (e.g. when a minor conflict turns into bullying) and try to mediate the dispute. I will listen to both sides of the story and come up with a viable solution. I understand that I am not able to solve all disputes. In the event that I fail to do so, I will seek advice from a superordinate or hand the case over to him/her.
- What would you do if you're not chosen?:
I would be slightly disappointed. I mean, which rejected applicant wouldn't be right? (Perhaps a small minority wouldn't.) But that doesn't mean that I will leave the server. I can’t always have it my way in life. If I don’t get chosen, I will just have to accept it and move on with my life. It’s not like I can do anything to make you change your decision once you've made up your mind anyway. But I do believe that “failure is the mother of success”. With hard work and determination, I am confident that I will eventually succeed somewhere, some day. Nevertheless, I will continue to try my best to help the server as a player and hope that the the staff of CrimsonMS will eventually recognize me.
Before I conclude my GM application, I would like to wish all the other applicants good luck and may the best one(s) get shortlisted. “May the odds be ever in your favor”! :p I hope you have enjoyed reading my application because I definitely enjoyed writing it. Thank you for taking the time to read it, I really appreciate it! I do hope that the staff of CrimsonMS will consider my application. But even if I am not accepted, I will still try my best to help with the server. Please forgive me if I have made any grammar, spelling or punctuation mistakes. I have proofread my application numerous times but there may still be occasional errors. Do let me know if you spot any so I can change them. Thanks! Constructive criticism as well as suggestions are very much welcome. Have a great day ahead! |
